Walk to End Distracted Driving Los Angeles, CA September 2018

Hundreds of employees, family, friends, and community members attended the Walk to End Distracted Driving. All of them taking active steps to end distracted driving.

Attendees participated in many walk festivities. They shopped the street fair, enjoyed a pancake breakfast, toured the iconic Automobile Club of Southern California Los Angeles Headquarters building, saw presentations about Auto Club history, watched a distracted driving simulator demonstration, and met racing champion John Force for an autograph.

There were also raffle drawings to benefit Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and their efforts to combat distracted driving behavior at the local school level.

John Boyle, President & CEO, spoke about the importance of this initiative, not just to AAA, but to everyone. According to NHTSA, in 2015 alone, 3,477 people were killed and 391,000 were injured in crashes involving distracted drivers. That’s an average of 9 people killed and more than 1,000 injured each day in the United States.

The Walk to End Distracted Driving brought welcomed media coverage on this vital message.   Several local TV stations were present at the event, and subsequently aired clips and interviews from the walk. “We got a lot of news coverage,” said Marie Montgomery-Nordhues, Corporate Communications. “More than 20 stories were running on five TV stations, with an audience of 1.5 million.”
